When the Enemy Attacks Your Prayers

Ephesians 6:18 (KJV) Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

Translations

Ephesians 6:18 (TNIV)And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people

Translations

If we look at the above scripture (I liked both translations) we notice something unique from the Apostle Paul’s statement that praying in the spirit and praying in all occasions is not enough we need to be alert (Watching thereunto)

When the Enemy Attacks Your Prayers

Now I hope that I’m not reading anything into this but it seems as though Paul is suggesting that something is (may) happen while we are in prayer that is antagonistic to the state of prosperous prayer. This verse would say to me, that we must have the spiritual discernment to correctly recognize the wiles of Satan in our prayer!

OK I’m not crazy; let me have a few minutes of your time to better give my arguments.

Prayer is a service, that we do to achieve many things. We speak the will of God in prayer, get to know God though prayer, confess our sins to God though prayer, even thank God for his blessing and tender mercies, loving kindness, salvation, forgiveness of sin, and his son Jesus Christ through prayer. But most importantly we develop or strengthen the relationship we have with God through Prayer.

But Satan seeks to maneuver other things in our life in front of prayer, and place prayer on the back burner. Even things that may appear to be for the edification of God’s kingdom can interrupt the time we have for prayer. We find it easy to be enthusiastic when it comes to making it to Christian concerts, and ministry meetings, bible study, Sunday school, and even Church, but something always comes up when it time to pray.

Faced with all the tribulations of life we say “This is the type of thing that only prayer can solve” yet we talk more about it, we worry more about it, we contemplate more about it, we scheme more about it, we seek after our own solutions more about it, we do all these thing more than we pray about it. Basically we put everything in front of prayer. Prayer is always last on our list of things to do.

Sadly, not one of us can say we have gone to God enough in prayer. We all have committed the sin of neglecting prayer, and sought our own devices to answer our problems. We all have placed prayer on the back burner for something else more important. But really what more important than prayer?

It is God’s will that we pray, and we say we love the Lord, we say we place Christ as Lord over our lives, but we fail to make time to commune with God. Even, Billy Graham spiritual advisor to many presidents, whom have arguably preached the word of God to more people than anyone else on this planet. As of 1993, more than 2.5 million people had stepped forward at his crusades to “accept Jesus Christ as their personal savior at his revivals. Even this great man of God has admitted to being so motivated with doing the Work of God that he has forgotten to do the Will of God! Now don’t go around telling people I said Billy Graham don’t pray, the point I’m trying to get across is that we can put things, even the things of God ahead of the Will of God.

The South African Minister Andrew Murray wrote “If we do not set a given time to pray, we will not pray” I would add also that we pray that out prayer time is never snatched away by the manipulation of the Devil.

But it is not just the prayer time that we must be watchful of. Often times when we are on our knees Satan seek to take control of our very thoughts. A mind that was perfectly clear of outside thoughts is now while we are in prayer being interrupted with thoughts of Monday’s meeting at work, or the phone bill, or even weather we’ve forgotten to turn off the lights in the basement before you came up to pray. This is just another way the Devil seeks to prevent you from spending time with God. This is how he, Satan, intercepts your supplications for the healing of Sister Jones at church, or the request of the salvation of a family member or friend on drugs. You see a prayer heard by God is a victory for you and a testimony of God faithfulness, so when your drop down on you knees to pray you become enemy of the devil, and he will do all he can to make you fail at prayer.

So is there any thing that we can do to fight these devices of Satan against us? Yes, pray, her are some suggestions that may help you to combat the Devil.

Set a Time to Pray

Set a time to pray two or three times per day, and let nothing come between your prayer time not even the works of God. Even though you have a set prayer time you should still pray whenever you have a few minutes to yourself. For instance while waiting for a bus, you can pray, or sitting in the doctors office waiting for your name to be called are both excellent times to pray.

Stay Single-Minded

Before you pray, pray that God will keep you single-minded, that your prayer will not be obscured by any of the Devil’s devices. And when or if your prayers are interrupted by disturbing thoughts, weakness, or just human junk, speak them out or your life. In Matthew 16:23 when Simon Peter tried to convince Jesus not to take up the cross, Jesus answered “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.” (TNIV)This allowed Christ to remain single-minded toward the things of God. Remember that the mind is the Devils play-ground; he attacks us in the mind causing us to question our faith, and even intercepting or interrupting our prayer with God. So before you pray put on the Helmet of Salvation so that the mind is protected against the evil devices of the enemy!

Inspirational Bible Verses – Ancient Love Poems

There’s a really interesting and inspirational Bible passage that comes from the book titled The Song of Solomon in the Old Testament of the Bible. The reason why I find it so fascinating is because it’s basically just an ancient love poem from a king to a common woman who he wants to wed. There’s a specific section in the book that I find especially interesting and want to share. I hope you like it as well. Here it is in the old King James version:

Translations

“For love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame.

Translations

Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned.”

Inspirational Bible Verses – Ancient Love Poems

The passage comes from the 8th and final chapter of the book and is something like a conclusion to the poem. I find it very interesting and inspirational because it’s not at all the kind of verse that a person expects to find in the Bible, especially in the Old Testament.

I’ve really enjoyed having the chance to read a lot of ancient poetry. I’ve read the ancient Chinese book the Tao Te Ching many times and really connect with it. I’ve also read a lot of the poetry of the ancient Persian poet Rumi. Ancient poetry is so much different than the poetry found in the modern world. It isn’t necessarily that the people living then were different than we are today, but the world and the way they saw the world was much more mysterious, dangerous, and unknown than the world that we live in today.

The Bible in actuality, has multiple books of poetry, like the book of Psalms for example, and when translating these books of ancient poetry it really seems as though the translators were concentrated more on being strictly accurate than they were about capturing the original beauty and poetic nature of the text. In ancient texts like the Tao Te Ching, modern English translations have spent much effort and diligence in trying to capture the poetic value of the poems, even trying to rhyme in English when it suits the text.

From my understanding, no one has yet tried to do something like this with the book of Psalms in the Bible. I really wish that a concerted effort would be made to do something like that because, as you saw in the passage I listed above, the Bible has a very poetic value to it at times, and that value is most often sacrificed in lieu of translational accuracy. But if a piece of text was meant to be read in a poetic fashion and that poetic value gets lost in the translation, then why does a person even bother translating the text in the first place?

Poetry is considered a mechanism for eliciting an emotional response from the reader. The words themselves are important, but in the strictest sense, if the right emotional response wasn’t elicited while the reader reads the poetry, then the actual message wasn’t conveyed. Otherwise, there’s really no reason to communicate in poetic language. But most of what I’ve seen from the book of Psalms has been from persons who don’t seem to necessarily care about keeping the original poetic value of the words intact. I hope one day that someone endeavors to undertake that project.

Neurosis Symptoms – The Safest and Best Treatment

A neurosis has different characteristics depending on the psychological type of each one. Here is a list with only the basic general symptoms:

The Translations

1- The person becomes distrustful and considers everyone a possible enemy.

The Translations

2- The person becomes too interested in other people’s opinion about them.

Neurosis Symptoms – The Safest and Best Treatment

3- They accept irrational solutions for problems, they follow through with this secret solution because they know it could be considered crazy and hence, they never reveal it to anyone.

4- They are always dissatisfied and bored-nothing can please them.

5- They are unable to concentrate. Repetitive thoughts constantly mull over the same facts and experiences, without interruption.

6- Doubts that can never be eliminated start constantly torturing the person: they cannot trust their own judgement about anything.

A neurosis starts appearing in human behavior when the person has a trauma that provokes depression and despair.

The human being has a wild primitive conscience and a human conscience. The wild conscience (anti-conscience) is violent and evil and it tries to destroy the conscience that controls one’s behavior, so that it can dominate the person and spread terror everywhere.

The anti-conscience is demoniac because it is the result of the disorganized development of the first conscience that was formed by chance billions of years ago. It is completely insensitive and cruel, deriving pleasure from pain and relishing terror since it only experienced terror in life because it could not find happiness. The conscience needs wisdom to be happy, but the first conscience was totally ignorant and made many mistakes.

This is the scientific explanation for the existence of a monster in the human mind. This monster causes craziness to the conscience and its first manifestation is the form of a neurosis.

Therefore, if something tragic and negative has happened to you, you are the perfect victim of the anti-conscience. You have to fight its domination and tame it with the guidance of the unconscious that you receive in your dreams. The unconscious regulates your body and tries to protect you from your anti-conscience.

I greatly simplified the scientific method of dream interpretation that will give you the key to a superior level of knowledge. You will realize that the unconscious is the best doctor you could ever find.

If you have a trauma and you are too sad and afraid, don’t trust your own ideas when trying to find a solution for your problems because these ideas are suggestions that come from the anti-conscience in a camouflaged form.

Start writing down your dreams and learn how to translate their mysterious messages so that you may overcome your neurosis following the directions you receive, without going anywhere and without paying a doctor for life.

The scientific method of dream interpretation is pure psychotherapy and it saves everyone without exceptions if the person precisely follows the guidance received in the dream messages. This is a treatment that can be so easily available to you only today. This is credited to the discovery of the anti-conscience in 1989; a discovery that completely changed the image we had about the human nature and mind.

Reflections on a Difficult Gospel Passage – Jesus and the Syrophoenician Woman

Jesus left that place and went to the vicinity of Tyre. He entered a house and did not want anyone to know it; yet he could not keep his presence secret. In fact, as soon as she heard about him, a woman whose little daughter was possessed by an evil spirit came and fell at his feet. The woman was a Greek, born in Syrian Phoenicia. She begged Jesus to drive the demon out of her daughter.

The Translations

“First let the children eat all they want,” he told her, “for it is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to their dogs.”

The Translations

“Yes, Lord,” she replied, “but even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.”

Reflections on a Difficult Gospel Passage – Jesus and the Syrophoenician Woman

Then he told her, “For such a reply, you may go; the demon has left your daughter.”

She went home and found her child lying on the bed, and the demon gone. Mark 7:24-30.

The response of Jesus to the Gentile woman may at first glance appear harsh and unjustifiable. His reference to the chosen race (children) as contrasted with the Gentiles (dogs) seems to imply that Jesus was unwilling or hesitant to extend His ministry to the Gentiles. Matthew’s account seems to modify it somewhat. In any case, the woman was rewarded for her perceptive response which insisted that the “dogs” share in the “children’s” food, even if it be crumbs. This story no doubt, had great significance for Mark’s Gentile readers because it showed that Jesus extended help to a Gentile woman who sought His assistance. But, let’s get back to the difficulty many consider cruel and unkind on the part of Jesus.

I have researched this issue rather thoroughly and have found that the reasons Stein provided for not interpreting this text as brutal on Jesus’ part are valid and supported by numerous respectable scholars.

One of the strongest reasons Stein gives is related to Jesus’ use of the word “dogs.” He points out the difference between the Greek term “kunaria” meaning puppy or pet dog, which Jesus used, and “kunes” meaning wild dogs. In his thoughts, this passage is best explained “as a match of wits in which Jesus seeks to lead the Syrophoenician woman to a more persistent and deeper faith.”

Curtis Beach doubts that any part of the conversation can be attributed to Jesus. To him, the text seems to reflect a controversy that existed in the early Church. He contends that the text may have arisen in two stages. The first stage (verses 25-27) may be the original portion which arose in the Jewish section of the Church and composed to show Jesus’ preference to not have dealings with the Gentiles. The second stage (verses 28-30) Beach suggests, was added by Gentile Christians to show that Jesus was pleased by the Gentile woman’s attitude. He goes on to point out that Mark uses this composite to demonstrate Jesus’ power which exceeded those he had previously reported. Beach also understands verse 24 as Mark’s addition since it expresses Mark’s characteristic ideas surrounding Jesus’ fame and His desire to keep His secret.

Barclay’s exegesis mirror’s Stein’s. He points to Jesus’ use of the diminutive word for “dog,” apparent tone of voice and like. He adds that symbolically, the Syrophoenician woman “stands for the Gentile world which so eagerly seized on the bread of heaven which the Jews rejected and threw away.”

The sources agree that Jesus’ words to the Syrophoenician woman was not harsh. Beach even goes so far as to reject the idea that Jesus spoke them at all. They raise some valid points that we all should explore in our personal Bible study. Understanding the different connotations associated with “dog” in Greek, which Stein elaborated on, reflects new light on the text as does the Greek word “elegen” which revealed the fact that a dialogue had been in progress prior to where Mark picks it up.

Knowledge of Greek or having available Greek translation resources at our disposal will offer all Bible students a definite exegetical advantage.

How to Fix Windows Server 2008 Boot Loader

If the boot loader to your Windows Server 2008 machine gets corrupted or deleted for whatever reason, it really is a painstaking process to get it fixed. The boot loader to my machine got deleted somehow while I was resizing partitions. After scouring the web, I could not find anything on rebuilding the boot loader for Windows Server 2008. All I could find were instructions to restore a Windows Vista boot loader but luckily, the process for Server 2008 is similar.

Machine Translation

Due to the lack of recovery tools on the Server 2008 installation CD, the boot loader must be rebuilt manually.

1000 Most Used English Words – Learn them First

The mathematicians that study language and have lots of computing power are forming English language word databases. These word databases can be used for machine language translation, formulas to rank collocation, most used priority word lists, word grouping tendencies and other linguistics research.

Translations

These frequency-based wordlists contain the words that are most used in English. Frequency-based wordlists can help you target specific English vocabulary by indicating which words you should try to learn first. Perfecting the core 1000 English words will accelerate your English language learning and English language comprehension.

Vocabulary analysis and summaries from the “Brown Corpus 1990″.

1000 Most Used English Words – Learn them First

Table 1

Words – Percent of words in average text

86,741 – 99.99%

43,831 – 99.0%

15,851 – 97.8%

6,000 – 89.9%

5,000 – 88.6%

4,000 – 86.7%

3,000 – 84.0%

2,000 – 79.7%

1,000 – 72.0%

10 – 23.7%

Table 1 shows us that in most written English just a few word types account for most of the English words in any text. Ten words account for 23.7 % of the words on any page and just 1000 word families account for more than 70% of the words used.

The ESL in Canada English Immersion camps experimented with the 1000 word lists and used them for the core vocabulary for spelling, poetry writing and public speaking contests. The constant English language reinforcement and repetition with variable context was quickly absorbed by the beginner students and greatly increased their confidence when listening, reading, speaking or writing.

Altavista’s Babelfish or Google by Systran machine translation performs with an error rate of 20 to 30 percent. The large error rate is due to how a word’s meaning varies with context.

One example:

The flu spread quickly and soon everyone was under the weather.

translated from English to German and back again only to yield

The flu that has become fast and shortly each one verbritten, was under the time.

So far Babelfish has 19 language pairs available and it has taken decades to develop language-pair rules for each of the 9,900 language word pairs.

Some observations for language students and language teachers is the translation pool for just average translations is 9900 words. The big variable is context, which means that a word can be used in various formats: “formal, industry specific jargon, slang, idioms, act a different part of speech performing a different function within that particular meaning. If every word has an average of five context variables then the student really has to learn 50,000 items. It is important for English language students to be careful in selecting the English words which are learned first

As final conclusions: second language learning takes time and effort and there should be plenty of translation jobs for the next 20 years if you are willing to invest the seven to nine years to be proficient.

In the following example the word “weather” can be used in about eight different contexts and be used to mean, define or explain about thirty different situations or conditions. To properly study vocabulary students require background information and context.

“Weather”

As a Noun

Definition 1. the state of the atmosphere at a particular place and time as characterized by sunshine, moisture, temperature, precipitation, and other variables.

When Will the Dinar Revalue?

Everybody is expecting a revaluation for the Iraq money. Revaluation is the term used to indicate an increase of value for certain currency. And because of this expectation, the people who have been investing in Iraqi Dinar are growing in numbers.

The Translations

There have been lots of disputes and arguments regarding the possible revaluation of Iraq’s currency. There are a group of people who are not convinced that the country will recover from a great loss but there are also some individuals who have predicted that the currency of Iraq will rise if given enough time. So, when will the Dinar revaluation specifically be if there is any? We are still uncertain but we can observe some events which are currently happening in Iraq.

The Translations

To answer the puzzling question we have, we may try to observe the current situation and events happening in Iraq over the last few years from the war it had with its former government. If we can determine its activities for a couple of months or years, we may be able to gather some inclinations and hypothesis about the possible revaluation of Iraq’s currency. The events might help us draw conclusions regarding the anticipated Dinar revaluation.

When Will the Dinar Revalue?

The first event that gives hope to the currency’s revaluation is the lifted sanctions and the approval of the Iraq’s Parliament for the second term of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. A new government leader means a new hope for change. This can be a good indication for a more liberal government for Iraq. And a liberal government can be a great indication of open foreign investments.

The second event that motivates lots of Dinar investors is the signing of contracts between oil companies and other neighboring nations with Iraq for expected oil reserves. And oil can be a great factor for a country to boom in its economic status. Oil is a worldwide demand that can be a great door for Iraq’s economic growth. Oil reserves means expanding resources and spreading industrial opportunities.

And lastly, Iraq has started participating in international market and foreign trades in developing its oil wells and some undiscovered oil reserves. If there is foreign involvement in the stock exchange then a boom in the economic status is to be expected. For Iraq, this could mean opportunity and to foreign investors this could mean another pot of gold.

Because of these ongoing possible events happening in Iraq, more and more people are driven to the possible revaluation of Iraq money. Although the New Iraqi Dinar is not yet openly traded in the international currency exchange market, its revaluation is highly expected. These positive events have been the strongholds for Dinar investors for the anticipated phenomenon that they call as Dinar revaluation.

We may not know the exact date of Iraq’s currency’s revaluation still, with all the positive and promising events happening in Iraq we can draw a conclusion that its increase in value is not far. Dinar investors can be confident in their venture. And maybe, we can venture in this promising opportunity as well.

When this is the case an intimate candle lit supper is fine. The menu should reflect the favorite foods of the guest of honor. If this is hamburgers or pizza then these are going to need a vital upgrade. Try this. Ask the butcher for the best cut of steak within budget. Have it ground like hamburger. Mix that in equal parts with the best fresh hamburger. Have the baker make an order of fresh hamburger buns. Then get ready those hamburgers better than any other burger ever eaten! Use only the best fresh toppings and serve all the toppings in a build-to-order bar. If pizza is the favorite meal try the same tactic. Use the best cheeses, meats and sauce available. Serve with a salad that would be a meal in itself.

The Translation

When the 21st birthday party is of the more casual kind, use only disposable and paper party supplies. Guests at the 21st birthday party are still young at heart and might enjoy the kind of menu they have loved throughout their youth. Bowls of chips and packaged dip are still expected. They might even appreciate candy dishes overflowing with childhood favorites. With this crowd, however, introduce the sandwich platter of deli meats. A good choice of meats and cheeses will quickly disappear as will the contents of the pickle tray. A similar fate may await those cut up vegetable–usually broccoli, carrots, celery and cauliflower.
